The Nydam boat
The Nydam boat is a rowing boat that was probably built between 310 and 320 CE. and around 320 CE it was sacrificed in the Nydam Marsh (South Jutland). It was excavated again in 1863. It was an ocean-going war ship that could take up to 45 men as a fast troop carrier, of which then 36 men had to row.
The origin of the wood indicates a construction site in Denmark, Schleswig-Holstein or Skåne.
The Nydam boat lies in the Nydam hall of the State Archaeological Museum in Gottorf Castle in Schleswig where visitors can look at it.
