The Nerthus Grove

Nerthus on het wagon, by Pollyanna Jones, taken from “Gods of the Germanic Peoples.
By sail and by row
to the island we go. (Repeat 2x)
On a hidden island
near a secret lake,
lives Nerthus our goddess
we never will forsake.
On an open wagon,
drawn by two strong cows,
She leaves her holy grove
rememb’ring our vows.
By sail and by row
to the island we go. (Repeat 2x)
As long as she’s driving
there’s mirth all in the land
No weapon will be raised then,
’cause peace is her demand.
We are a seven tribes
all represented here,
to venerate the goddess,
we feel her very near.
By sail and by row
to the island we go. (Repeat 2x)
In her we are united,
it brings us really close.
With words we solve our conflicts
in stead of to oppose.
The Longbeards and Suevi
we learned them to respect us,
The name of our goddess,
prevents them to agress us.
By sail and by row
to the island we go. (Repeat 2x)
