Introduction

In 2014 my 2-volume work “Gods of the Germanic Peoples” was published. The books were a combination of lexicon-alike historical, mythological and folkloric information about gods and goddesses based on the related available sources, together with myth-alike fiction stories and contemporary chalk drawing art.

The intention was to bring the ‘business’ information to life more vividly through the short stories, which are each less than a page long, and the illustrations.

That combination was probably too bold, as the books did not catch on with the public. After about six years less than 50 copies of this work were sold. Feedback from many readers showed, that their interest was mainly the factual information given about the deities.

In 2020, it was with pain in the heart decided to withdraw the two-volume work from sale. In its place, a new book was published with the title: “Illustrated Lexicon of Germanic Deities.” The aforementioned work was the basis for this; however, the information about the gods and goddesses was corrected where necessary, updated and expanded with more information from ‘new-found ‘sources, including several earlier not-discovered deities.

Yet, it the eyes of the author (me), it would be a huge loss, when the one hundred fiction stories, written for the 2-volume work by Lucia Jochimsdatter and the contemporary art created by Pollyanna Jones would fall into oblivion. Thus, also in 2020, I put on my todo-list to add both to my site “Boudicca’s Bard”.

Moreover, initially, the stories were written in English, as that work was published in English only. But to spread them over a wider audience, I’ve translated them into German and Dutch. That fits much better to this site, which is trilingual.

To each story, a note is added to the deity it concerns, pointing to the corresponding page of the “Illustrated Lexicon of Germanic Deities,” where mythological, historical or lore information is provided. Each narrative bears the name of the deity or deities to whom it is dedicated.

The art by Pollyanna Jones is brought together in a gallery at:
