While writing/translating my upcoming book in English, German and Dutch “Britain and Boudicca”, I found a painting by Sir John Everett Millais from 1865, titled “The Romans Leaving Britain”. Most of Britain was several centuries part of the Roman Empire, and only after that Empire was in its last spasms, that ended. The Roman army there was needed elsewhere where enemies crossed the Roman borders.
The painting shows, that Roman soldiers who lived for decades in Britain may have had wives which the had to leave at departure. Large parts of Britain were Romanized over the centuries, but likely, the Romans were also at least partially ‘Britainized’.
As for the book, which contains many illustrations and maps, many of them in color…. the German and Dutch editions will be published through my German publishing company BoD.
But for the English edition, I have not found yet a publisher outside Germany who can keep the illustrations in color.
Admittedly, I have very little knowledge about publishing in the English-speaking world.
Hence, tips are very welcome.
